Rotary Club of Birstall Luddites
Battle of Adwalton Moor talk followed by a meal at the Railway.
On Mon 12th Aug Rotarians assembled at 18:00 at the Railway Pub adjacent to Adwalton Moor.
The short walk to the battle viewing point was led by Rotarian Robert Jackson.
Robert explained that where we stood there were 10 thousand Royalists formed to meet 5 thousand Parliamentarians who were down the slope formed to do battle.
One of the best explanations of the days' proceedings on 30th June 1643 are explained in the LINK
Adwalton Moor below
which also shows where the 4 stones are.
Big thanks to Robert for organising the talk.
Rotarians gathered around Robert for his talk.
Station 2 stone explains what happened from the view.
Ian pointing out a battle area.
Another good LINK to a more detailed account of the battle.
Below is a poem that Robert has written about the civil war.
Note that Robert has copyrighted the Poem, see end of script for details.
