Charity 60s Night
Friday 17th May the club held a 60s evening in aid of the childrens Hospice Charity
"Forget me not childrens hospice" at the Batley Community Centre.
What a great night it turned out to be. Seating 100 guests into their groups was a task that President Mary and Rotarian Kathryn managed with extra tables.
The evening started with a musical bingo, Jerry giving hit songs of the 60s as clues .
Rotarian Ian led a "telephone call" which raised £209, raffle tickets were sold, and the prize wasd a large hamper donated by Simone from Tesco. Also from Tesco a 50-bottle Tombola stall £5 for 6 chances for the very good selection of bottles.
The Raffle and Tombola raised £613 for the Hospice, thanks to Tesco.
A supper to suit the event of 60s night was Chicken and chips and a pudding of Angel Delight.
The second part of the evening commenced with Rotarian Jerry starting his 60s act, singing songs
from that era.
Dancing and singing along to the songs made for a good atmosphere with computer effects from Rotarian Keith adding to the night.
A crowded dance floor would have liked more songs but time expired and the raffle was drawn and President Mary and Simone thanked all for making the night such a success.
Big thanks to Jerry for his act and Keith for his back up.
Thanks to Ian, Paul and Kathryn, and President Mary for organising the evening's smooth running.
Big thanks to Simone and Tesco for their support.
Thanks to the different groups attending, long causway Church Dewsbury, Rock Choirs from Dewsbury and Roundhay, plus Ian's legion from Birstall.
Finally all the Rotarians, partners and friends from Birstall Luddites and local Rotary clubs.
