(At the Chelmsford Rugby Club.) Our usual monthly business meeting

Revised Club logo

The first of February and our first business meeting of 2024. In view of President Francis’s absence at a funeral, the chair was taken by Treasurer and Past President Bob Booker.

A clipboard with a big red tick superimposedHe gave the first report once the minutes of the last business meeting were approved. This was on the accounts of the Club and the Trust Fund. The movements on the Trust Fund included receipts from fund-raising events in December and January, including Santa’s Grotto and the Christmas Quiz. £51 had been taken at the Young Musician competition but payments still to be made amounted to £270; it would be necessary to transfer some money from the General Fund to cover this.

Our member DGE Anne Moriaty gave a report on behalf of the District. Speaking on behalf of the Community and Vocations Chair, Bob reminded members that our Spring Jumble Sale will be held at Danbury Village Hall on 20 April; help in the afternoon would be particularly welcome.

Angela Dickman, Council Member for Youth Services, reported that purple crocus bulbs had been delivered to three or four local primary schools, who had promised to put photographs of the crocuses on their websites when the flowers started coming up. Local schools would also be encouraged to take part in Rotary Youth Competitions. The sponsorship of Rotakids and Interact Clubs at local schools was being considered but we might not have the manpower to organise these.

The next meeting will be a visit to Café Knitters at Maldon Methodist Church. Keith Dabbs will circulate details on Sunday. The meeting arrangements for the next Rotary year will be discussed at our business meeting on 7 March.
