The award was presented by our president Mervyn Edwards.
Paul Harris was a Chicago attorney and formed the first Rotary club in Chicago in 1905.
The Award named after him is the highest award in Rotary. It is given to anyone that has made an outstanding contribution to the community. Truly ‘Service Above Self’ and service over and above the call of duty. Rotarian Helen Salisbury provided details of a few of the many projects that Peter Threadgold has been involved in. All of which made a huge difference to the community of Chesham. She also gave us a quick reminder that NEIL AMSTRONG – was a Paul Harris Fellow – so Peter was joining an elite group.
· PHOENIX PLAYERS CHESHAM - (formerly the Chesham Theatre Company)
Although Peter is the best Sound Engineer in the theatre business and performs this role for the Phoenix Players, he also undertakes the design (and ultimate building of the sets required) for small or large productions performed in the Little Theatre by The Park (previously the Temperance Hall).
He has been doing this for the community of Chesham for over 20 years – all voluntarily and unpaid.
· HYDE HEATH THEATRE COMPANY
Peter gives of his time and skills during any show they put on at Hyde Heath. All set design and organisation of the build is done by him. All free of charge and for the good of the community. - The Sound for all their shows are designed and produced by Peter.
· CHESHAM MUSICAL THEATRE COMPANY (CMTC)
Peter for many years has been the main designer and set builder for all the large musicals performed by CMTC at The Elgiva Theatre, Chesham.
This is a mammoth task and he does it willingly and superbly, voluntarily and without any payment.
· PANDA PLAYERS THEATRE GROUP
This is another company that Peter has put his energy and expertise into. Including the set designing and set building for many years. All as this is a community based amateur theatre group the shows are put on for the Chesham public.
· THE LUVVIES
This is an Amateur Dramatics Society – that normally performs up at the Ley Hill Memorial Hall put on a variety of plays, etc. Peter works with this group designing and building their sets as well as organising the sound for their productions. I believe Peter also takes on the role of Production Manager.
· ROTARY GAMES
As all Rotarians know Peter has been the designer and provider of the wonderful Rotary Games we now possess. Without any templates or designs (purely from photographs or seeing the games in person) made many games that Rotary has used over the past few years.
Sometimes the games were borrowed by other Rotary clubs in the area, sometimes by schools to use at their school festivals. All designed, made, varnished and showing the Rotary logo – much admired by all who use the games.
· CHRISTMAS SLEIGH
As all Rotarians know Peter has been a stalwart supporter of the Christmas Sleigh and has helped in more ways than one. Helping to paint the sleigh, fix the lights, fix the music and also go around the streets collecting at Christmas time & also supported our static collection whenever possible.
