42nd Charter night

The Club celebrated it's 42 Charter this week and as always the eveing was thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended.

The Brook in Soham was the venue for the evening and the Club would like to thank all their staff and the caterers for an excellent meal.

A toast to the Club was delivered by District Governor, Derek Rothwell, who praised the club for its achievements and wished them ongoing success in their future endevours.

This year's speaker was Sue Marchant from BBC Radio Cambridgeshire. Sue gave her audience an insightful account of her career in radio plus snippets of her time as lead singer of the group Freestyle. Many Rotarians recalling her excellent Tina Turner cover of Nutbush City Limits.

Sue also took the opportunity to demonstrate the concept of sound bites which she had talked about by walking amoung the guests interviewing them on their thoughts about Rotary - there was some very interesting feedback which if you want to hear it - click on the Rotary Logo below to download audio file.

The whisky raffle this year was in aid of the Rotary Youth Leadership awards (RYLA) which the Soham Club is supporting with a candidate to Grafham Water outdoor centre in September. Honorary rotarian David Palmer also auctioned off several items  - Overall over £600 was raised for RYLA.

Final thanks from President Stuart went to all our distinguished guests and supporters and in particular to to Rtn Bill Rind for organising the event. A fun night.
