The £500 donation from the club to Stag Laser Products for the manufacture of PPE had been acknowledged by them and details from their social media had been previously circulated. These visors will shortly be going into use at local hospitals and, especially, care homes where there was considered to be a particular need for this PPE.
Libby mentioned that she is making cloth face masks in her home for use by friends and relations. The project started as a fund raiser for the Teenage Cancer Trust from where a friend (Susan Morrison) is receiving considerable support. Members can purchase these masks directly from Libby, or make a donation to the Teenage Cancer Trust using the following link:

These masks are simple to make from old fabrics and effective for use in shops and public places. The patterns (adult and child) are available from the club website should members wish to make their own. Unfortunately the files are too big to email to you with these minutes (the Rotary email system is limited to just 2Mb)! Therefore, as an alternative if you wish, email a reply to these minutes and copies of the patterns will be sent to you separately.
Discussion then moved to the applications to be submitted to District in order to attract monies now available from their programme of events cancelled by social distancing. The charitable funding part, worth up to £500, is fairly straight forward: we have identified areas of need in our area. The other element, also worth up to £500, is more complicated since it specifically relates to information technology. The proposal most likely to succeed would appear to be to purchase basic tablet computers (3 off), configure these as turnkey “Zoom” facilities for club members struggling to participate in these meetings through a lack of technical knowledge, and later, when the pandemic is past, to reallocate this equipment to Fife Women’s Aid, where there is a continuing requirement for social isolation from abusive family members.
Meanwhile we will continue to collect voluntary donations, especially from members who have not already made other commitments in support of the coronavirus pandemic and its consequences. A number of members have already made such donations, especially in part for Rotary meals not being taken due to social distancing. It was noted that farm shops (e.g. Muddy Boots, Ardross, etc) have been a particular source of support for local communities, especially for people who have to be isolated in their home and therefore need essential supplies delivered to their door. These farm shops have taken up the demand not covered by traditional suppliers.
Sandy presented a summary of the Virtual District Meeting he attended on behalf of the club. The main point of note is that RIBI contribution in member subscriptions will be going up in increments to £67, £70 and £73 over the next three years.
Finally it was noted that Willie Lang’s mother-in-law had died in her care home at Monifieth, and the funeral was on Thursday. All the participants in this meeting offered their sincere condolences.
