The speaker this evening was Club member Bill Inglis, who gave an insight into the former explosives factory at Ardeer in north Ayrshire.
Built in 1870s by Alfred Nobel, the Swedish inventor of 'Dynamite' as the British Dynamite factory, and later taken over by ICI.
The site eventually extended to over 100 acres and had its own dedicated rail line to Glasgow. At its peak, the factory had a mixed workforce of around 13,.000 with two trains and some thirty buses daily.
The factory developed to become the biggest explosives manufacturing plant in the world.
Bill himself, as a young man was employed on site in research and development, before going on to a career in brewing.
Vote of Tanks was given by John Ewan.
