Speaker: Peter McKinnon (Cupar RC) 'An Interesting Family Story.' Welcome Team: Willie Lang (Bottle), Ronnie Black (Grace), Robin Rippin (VoT & Web report). Committee Report: Foundation.
Peter is a local chap who has been involved in farming for many years. The title for his talk was “Grandfather”. The McKinnon family originated from the most southern point of Islay
Needless to say fishing and the seas ran in their blood. Following this his talk involved his father who was in The Merchant Navy during the Second World War where the ships departed from Loch Ewe carrying goods to Russia which was a hazardous journey where many were attacked and lost with conditions on board incredibly difficult with the additional hazards of snow and ice. His grandfather and father were both involved in the days of the whaling fleets of the Salveson Company where they were away for long periods of time in equally hazardous conditions that prevailed on those ships.
We thoroughly enjoyed Peter’s talk which was well received by all of us.
