Yesterday evening at the Pitlessie Village Inn the Howe of Fife Rotary Club held a joint meeting with members from Cupar Rotary Club and Cupar Inner Wheel.
On the 100th anniversary of the death of Sir Hugh Munro it was entirely appropriate that the speaker that evening was an experienced Scottish mountaineer. Vicky Gorn, a member of the Rotary Club of Inverkeithing and Dalgety Bay, talked about her passion for climbing which she only took up about seven years ago. Since then she has conquered many Munros, climbed Mount Toubkal in Morocco and climbed in the Dolomite Alps.
She advised that she has taken part in four mountaineering trips to Nepal but before being allowed to climb there she had to prove she had the experience to take part. The test she was set was to climb The Old Man of Hoy in her native Orkney, which she successfully achieved, the first female Orcadian to do so!
Vicky then talked about the work that Rotary was undertaking in Nepal including the Phortse Basic School build project and others that are making a meaningful difference to the people of Nepal.
