David Jack related his first-hand experience of a NATO allied military exercise which went dramatically wrong on 9th September 1974 the details of which remained under cover until revealed in the Glasgow Herald on 3rd January 2015.
Culpable negligence was the charge made against NATO forces that lead to the death of six paratroopers from the Scottish Parachute Regiment when they were dropped into the Kiel canal. The men drowned when they were dropped too far from the designated landing zone and the men were unable to inflate their life jackets.
David's talk drew focus to the efforts made in covering up this incident but the incident remains the worst death toll of reservist soldiers that has been recorded.
