Pupils from the Primary Schools of Auchtermuchty, Dunbog, Freuchie, Gateside, Kettle, Ladybank, Letham, Newburgh, Springfield and Strathmiglo pitted their wits against each other in the annual quiz event in Strathmiglo Public Hall. Supported by family and friends, they had to answer some 60 questions on a wide variety of topics.
Freuchie, Gateside and Springfield were quick off the mark gaining full marks in the Alphabet round. Round 2 was on Geography, and most teams lost their way here, with only Strathmiglo and Freuchie managing over 50%. None of the teams achieved full marks in the next round, the Natural World, though the Literature and Mathematics rounds produced distinct progress.
At the half way stage of the quiz Freuchie had established a good lead over Letham and Strathmiglo in joint second place. After questions on Sport, History and Media it was clear that this was a three-horse race with two of the teams vying for the runner-up spot.
Freuchie was the only team to answer every question correctly in the Pot Luck and Picture rounds and thus emerged worthy winners of a fun contest. They will now go on to represent the Club in the Area Final next month competing against other heat winners from East Fife and Dundee. The Freuchie score of 110 out of a possible 120 shows that they are likely to prove formidable competitors.
Each of the pupils taking part received a certificate. The Rotary Club of the Howe of Fife also made a small donation to each School Fund by way of reward for pupils and staff.
