Playgrounds are our first proper engagement with the Community – our pre-selection process lasts about two months, where we observe the Community’s interaction and we carefully assess how engaged, how enthusiastic and how well they work together and with us. We then monitor the number of children using the playground and the Community’s maintenance and upkeep of the equipment.
If all goes well, 6 to 12 months later they receive our container and the library project commences. If not, three or four months after the playground installation we start looking for another community. In the three months, we try to encourage them and inspire them to work with us. Moving onto another community is the last resort for us.
