A guaranteed way of helping
Many of us will have seen the harrowing scenes from Lebanon following the devastating blast caused by the explosion of ammonia nitrate in Beirut Harbour. The media compared the catastrophic outcomes to that of a nuclear bomb and it has killed hundreds of people, more than 4,000 wounded and hundreds have disappeared. Major hospitals were damaged and they have exceeded their capacities, rerouting some injuries to hospitals all over the country.
In addition to the financial and economic crisis that is hitting the country, Lebanon is experiencing high numbers of Covid-19 that are beyond their response capacity.
This disastrous situation needs an urgent response in matter of food, shelters, medical goods and equipment, and basic sanitary needs.
Like many Rotary clubs across the country, Hythe & Waterside Rotary are looking to support in basic food, medical supplies, pharmaceutical and sanitary products. Normally Rotarians would be out in the community with their collection tins knowing that those who would like to give to this most worthy cause could do so, sure in the knowledge that the money would not go astray but go directly to Rotary in Beirut who will ensure that crucial needs are met.
Hythe & Waterside Rotary have already donated £500 from our charity account and if you would like to add to this by making a donation please do so by an internet payment to Rotary Club of Hythe and Waterside, Sort Code: 40-42-18, account number 24020952. Please mark your donation “Rotary Beirut”.
Alternatively you can donate by text by sending ROTAB followed by an amount to 70450, such as ROTAB 3 to donate £3. Texts cost one standard rate message plus your donation.
