Global Sight Solutions establishes eye hospitals in the developing world which provide free eye care to the poor while becoming both sustainable and financially freestanding. Global Sight Solutions first hospital opened in 1998, 27 further hospitals by 2011. Target of 50 more hospitals by 2021 only thwarted by Covid.
This is a new Project to raise sufficient funds to provide start-up equipment for a new eye hospital costing approx £12,000. We hope to achieve this with help from other clubs, Christmas collection, Rotarail, Magic evening and Open Gardens. It is estimated that there are up to 650 million individuals worldwide who are too poor to access solutions to a variety of sight problems. Within that number are nearly 50 million people in need of surgical procedures, typically cataract operations. These are known as the avoidably blind. Rotary Global Sight Solutions Partners abroad are required to provide the building, which becomes the eye hospital and to maintain all medical units. This provides permanent local eye hospital facilities which can give communities a 24/7 service. All eye hospitals are required to achieve financial self-sustainability by deriving their income streams. Global Sight Solutions New hospitals are planned for: The Middle East, Bangladesh, Sub Saharan Africa, India & many more!
