End Polio Now and International Projects

A well as End Polio Now we have a number of initiatives abroad to help those in need and effected by disasters.

Rotary has been working to eradicate polio for more than 35 years.  Our goal of ridding the world of this disease is closer than ever.  As a founding partner of the Global Polio Eradication initiative, we've reduced polio cases by 99.9 percent since our first project to vaccinate children in the Philippines in 1979.

End Polio was the chosen international charity of our President Alan for 2023-2024.  A "Walk a Mile" event was held in the Marlowes on World Polio Day which raised £200.  A donation of £1500 was made in June to End Polio which will be 2-1 matched by the Bill Gates Foundation.

We donated a further £2000 to Shelterbox, Rotarys rapid response when disaster strikes.

We continued to sponsor a child in Africa via the Red Rubber Ball Foundation.

We put £1 coins in our Good News Tin when we have good news to tell, resulting in £600 being sent to the Rotary Club of Malabon in the Phillipines to help fund a christmas party for disabled children.

Save a Child's Heart (SACH) - This project which we have supported in conjunction with Watford Rotary Club and others, has now been completed.  It has involved the purchase together with a Rotary global grant of a specialist medical mannequin of $40,000 (our contribution £2000).  It was delivered to the Internationsl Children's Paediatric Centre Hospital in Israel for the training of doctors from all over the world in children's heart surgery.
