Santa Sleigh Raises £17,000 for Local Charities
The Hemel Rotary Santa Sleigh brought festive cheer to Hemel Hempstead, Kings Langley and Abbots Langley once again this year, delighting families with music, lights and plenty of Christmas spirit.
This year’s sleigh activities raised an impressive £17,000 through street-by-street routes, static events and sponsorship. Bucket collections alone totalled £11,940, made up of 580 notes and 23,120 coins.
Since the Santa Sleigh first took to the streets ten years ago, it has helped raise more than £150,000 for local causes.
A total of 25 charitable organisations that assisted with the routes will each receive £320 at a presentation evening in early February. Hemel Rotary will also make additional smaller donations to another 25 local charities and community groups at a second event later in the year.
All 25 routes were completed this year, covering 386 roads and more than 111 kilometres (69 miles), with only one route rescheduled due to bad weather.
The sleigh also appeared at 11 static events, supported by 50 volunteers who contributed over 250 hours as collectors, drivers and as Santa or Mrs Claus.
Hemel Rotary extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who donated, volunteered or came out to support the sleigh this year.
