Given the contribution of Rotary clubs over a number of years towards ending polio, it is gratifying to note the significant success that has been achieved.
The disease now remains in only 2 countries in the world, with very few cases identified this year and total polio eradication is now an achievable target. It is important that the immunisation programme continues (even in non-affected countries) for at least the next three years until the wild polio virus can be eliminated and no longer spread by potential carriers.
The club donates to the End Polio Now Appeal annually. The donations are matched 2 for 1 by the Bill Gates Foundation.
