The work of Rotary begins in the community, and every community has its own unique needs and concerns. While we serve in many different ways, we’ve focused our efforts in seven key areas to maximise our impact. These areas cover some of the world’s most critical and widespread humanitarian needs, and we have a proven record of success in addressing them.
Rotary members planning new service projects are encouraged to consider these areas and the many opportunities for innovative projects within them.
END POLIO NOW
Rotary International has been working hard for many years to eradicate Polio. Following a suggestion from just one Rotarian, it has been successful in all countries with the exception of Pakistan and Afghanistan where the outbreak or wild polio is down to single figures.
This has been achieved by working with UNICEF and generous donations from the Bill and Melissa Gates Foundation which for every dollar Rotary raises they give double. For more details please go to the Rotary international web site.
Foundation also works locally and the Market Harborough club has successfully applied for matched grants such as the training of a Forest School teacher, the planting of trees in Welland Park. Also, this Club was awarded an international grant to establish palliative care in Ethiopia. This is still active as no clinic or hospital can now be registered without such provision.
If you feel you would like to be a part of such an organisation please join us.
ROTARY FOUNDATION GLOBAL GRANTS AND THE AREAS OF FOCUS
All Rotary clubs and districts are eligible to apply for global grants from The Rotary Foundation to support sustainable activities with high-impact outcomes in one or more of the six areas of focus. These activities may include humanitarian projects, scholarships, and vocational training teams. Prospective global grant-funded projects always include a plan for monitoring and evaluation using the measures established by the Foundation for each area. Learn about the criteria for global grants in each area by consulting the Areas of Focus Policy Statements at Rotary.org.
How do we do it?
Projects within the Seven Areas of Focus are funded by a grant system operated between Rotary clubs and The Rotary Foundation. This gives clubs the opportunity to apply for grants for projects which matter to them.
Whom do we do it with?
Once a project is identified, clubs in Great Britain and Ireland partner with Rotary clubs in the host country to undertake the project. Additionally, clubs have the opportunity to partner with approved agencies to provide specialist input in the seven Areas of Focus.
Can we work with you?
The great thing about Rotary is that is gives people the platform to make a difference and focus on the issues which matter to them. If you as an individual or an organisation, have a cause you are passionate about, set the wheels in motion and collaborate with clubs locally, nationally and internationally to make a difference.
You will have access to resources and programmes that can help you increase your personal and professional skills, gain world understanding, and make lifelong friendships all while bringing about sustainable, positive change in communities. We are always looking for new ways of ‘Doing Good In The World’. We want to hear from you!

Comment: Thank you for all you do in such a wide area so effectively, especially in the Global South. I'm thrilled that you have added the Environment to your key areas and look forward to working with you in the Market Harborough and District United for Warm Homes campaign run by Friends of the Earth. Julie
