PRESENTATION TO 'MAKATON'

The Pavilion Café in MacRosty Park and Nikki MacPhee, Speech and Language Therapist, have joined forces to help make the café an even more communication friendly environment for those with communication difficulties. With the help of the Rotary Club of Crieff they now have some funding to work towards achieving  “Makaton Friendly” status by undertaking the relevant staff training and environmental changes. Makaton is a language system designed to provide functional communication for those with communication difficulties by using a combination of sign and symbols to enable children and adults to interact with others, participate in society, gain independence and fulfil their potential. The intention is to make the café a place where anyone with any level of communication is welcome and can come and truly take part.

A few Club Members braved the poor weather to visit MacRosty Park and meet with Nikki who had recently spoken to the Club and informed it of the work she was doing in promoting 'Makaton' and how it would be used by Rob who runs the Pavillion Cafe in the Park. Following on from that talk Club Members made the decision to contribute towards the project which it considered would be a worthwhile one for assisting a variety of groups and encouraging use of the wonderful facilities available on a visit to MacRosty Park.

Club President Jim is seen handing over the cheque for £320 to Nikki, watched by Club Secretary Bob and Rob from the Pavillion Cafe.  Our Executive Secretary's dog Dougie is overseeing the ceremony!
