On Wednesday, 12th November 2014 Crieff Rotary Club was delighted to hold its Young Musician Competition for the twelfth time - its first having been held in 1991.
A total of 77 pupils from local schools (Ardvreck, Crieff High School, Morrison's Academy and Madderty Primary) participated in the Competition which, with the assistance of Morrison's Academy, was held in Ferntower Hall at Morrison's Academy. Adjudication of the competitors was carried out by Andrew McGarva, Director of Music, Kilgraston who very kindly gave up a full day to listen to the competitors.
The Competition is split into four sections allowing pupils of all standards to compete against each other - Primary (Grades1/2) / Intermediate (Grades 3/4) / Advanced (Grades 5/6) / Open (Grades 7/8). Throughout the day there were many excellent performances giving Andrew McGarva a difficult job in reaching his decision on a number of occasions.
A flavour of the day along with the actual results can be gained from watching the Photo Gallery attached to this page. The results themselves are also available from the following link:
Rotary Young Musician Competition - List of Winners and Runners-up for 2014
It was clear throughout the course of the day that those competing gained something from the experience, whether successful or not, which is the whole reason behind the Club's running of the Competition.
Further Competition lies ahead for the winners and runners-up.
Firstly, the Club will be holding a Gala Evening in the near future (probably sometime in February 2015) when all of the successful competitors will play their pieces and one of them will then be chosen as having given the most musical performance which will gain them Crieff Club's Young Musician of the Year Trophy.
Secondly, the winner of the Open Section will be put forward by the Club to compete in the District final of Rotary's Young Musician Competition which is due to take place on Saturday, 28th February 2015 at St. Leonard
