The mission of The Rotary Foundation is to enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty.
Rotary International is a worldwide organization with 32,000 clubs in almost every country of the world. It is committed to service for the communities throughout the world where it is established. Many members of Rotary are leaders in their communities, and many have vocational skills that they use to support humanitarian and educational projects that help to make their communities better places.
The Rotary Foundation was set up to harness the potential of this worldwide organization by helping clubs to undertake humanitarian and educational work that adds up to more than the sum of their individual efforts. It is formed as an international trust whose trustees are drawn from the Rotary organization. But it operates entirely through the clubs that form Rotary International. In effect, Foundation is Rotary in action as an international humanitarian and educational NGO.
Worldwide, Foundation delivers support of $250 million to humanitarian and educational projects. With additional funding and volunteer input from Rotary clubs the total value of the programmes is substantially greater.
