Nailsworth Rotary provides funds and also key volunteers to help run Five Valley Sounds – Stroud’s Talking Newspaper.
This is a registered charity which has been making weekly recordings of news and events from the Stroud News and Journal since 1982. The recordings are saved on USB sticks, which are then provided to those who are unable to read standard print so that they can listen to the local news instead.
The charity is able to provide a USB player on free loan to registered blind or partially sighted people, or to anyone unable to read standard print. The USBs are despatched and returned, post free, by the Royal Mail. This brilliant service is run by unpaid volunteers, and relies entirely on donations and grants for funding.
