Old Man and His Bike - Land's End to John O'Groats

Frank B King, President of Nailsworth Rotary Club, has just completed this epic ride, collecting donations for Shelterbox and local charities.

In his own words he tells us why he decided to do this:

“At the tender age of 73 (and a half) I've taken on the rather long and gruelling challenge of cycling from Land's End to John O’Groats.

Starting on Sunday 2nd June 2024, I shall set out on my bike from the start point at Land's End. The route is just over 1,000 miles in total, and includes over 55,000 feet of climbs. The whole challenge will take 14 days - cycling an average of 71 miles each and every day, with overnight stops to attempt some recovery and refuelling!

I’m doing this tough challenge at my tender age to raise money for Shelterbox, and for Nailsworth Rotary who feed in to multiple different charities.

Every pound will help enormously with my motivation to put in the hundreds of miles training which are needed, so please donate if you can. Donations are eligible for Gift Aid since they are for registered charities, and I’m covering all costs myself and so every penny will go to worthy causes.

50% of the money raised will go directly to Shelterbox - more details of the organisation can be seen on their website, and the remaining money will be distributed to the many causes which Nailsworth Rotary supports - more details of these can be seen on our website.

This venture is organised by Pedal Britain which promotes it as The Ultimate Road Cycling Holiday in the UK!

Thank you for reading through, and for any donation you can make - it’s greatly appreciated.”
