Home-Start

Providing toys, games and books for children

Home-Start Stroud and Gloucester is a local charity which supports parents with children under five years of age who are going through challenging times.

Our local Home-Start had great fun choosing items for the children in the families they work with, paid for by a community grant from Nailsworth Rotary. A Home-Start worker told us that the children will be so excited when our volunteers take toys out of their bags to play with them or read to them.

“We have chosen a mix of toys, dolls, puppets, games and books to enable play and discussion to stimulate children's brains and development, and I know they will be very well used and appreciated by all the families we work with as well as enabling the volunteers to interact with children and parents alike.

Much of our work involves modelling behaviour so that when we are not there, the parents have the confidence and knowledge to do the same. Play is an integral part of a child's development and language and discussions are also vital.

These resources will be well used for years to come giving a huge number of children interactions they may otherwise not have very often. Please thank everyone for your support”.

This grant was of course made possible by money you have donated to us: you have bought paintings, attended concerts and have put money in our collecting boxes. A huge thank you from Nailsworth Rotary for your support, and for your donations small and large - every penny counts.
