Outgoing Nailsworth President, Colleen Rothwell, presents the Winner’s Certificate to one of the local pupils at Amberley Parochial School. This school has produced winners in this annual Rotary competition for the last three years which is a great credit to both the school and its pupils.
The theme for this year’s competition was “My Happiest Day”, and the dramatic winning story was about the abject loss in WWII of a husband and son, followed by their unexpected appearance out of the blue. It included many detailed scenes and description of heatbreak – all from a nine-year old!
The Writing Competition is just one of a series of competitions run annually by Rotary to encourage young people to achieve their potential and to champion success. The competitions are run on a Rotary District basis, with winners progressing to higher level competitions within UK. This year the competitions covered writing, art, photography and the environment.
