Saddlers Recognised for Supporting End Polio Project

Walsall Saddlers have been awarded the Fraser Dukes Trophy 2024-25 for their support for the End Polio Now Project which is Rotary's flagship humanitarian project

Fraser Dukes Trophy

Walsall Saddlers have been recognised for their efforts in supporting Rotary's Flagship Project End Polio Now.

Pictured here are some of the members with the Fraser Dukes Trophy which is awarded to the club or individual who has made an impact towards ending polio.

In 1979 Rotary embarked on its most ambitious humanitarian project in its history when 6 million children were immunised against polio in The Phillipines. In 1984 Rotary launched the PolioPlus project who's aim was to eradicate polio from the planet. Over the years Rotary along with its partners, the C.D.C. and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation have reduced the incidence of polio by 99.9% from over 350,000 cases per year to less than 50.

The project has also provided a network of monitoring stations across the World to help monitor other diseases and was instrumental in tracking the Corona Virus in the recent pandemic, hence the name PolioPlus.

Since its inception Rotary has immunised over 1 Billion children across the World

However Rotarians made a promise to the children of the World to eradicate this terrible disease once and for all so we must continue to support this project, hence the slogan End Polio Now.

The World is  a more dangerous place and Rotary do not underestimate the difficulty in getting to the very last child.
