We have achieved various charity support activities in 2024 through the generous support of Rotary District grants and our dear friend, Jim Donovan.
Through a generous donation to MKGU Rotary from our late dear friend Jim Donovan, we were able to support a local charity Ride High RideHigh, which supports vulnerable children to develop their social and life skills through connection with horses. Through this generous donation, we were able to support an artist to work withe the children to produce a number of mosaics on display at the charity equestrian centre in Loughton.
In Spring 2024, we supported the President's charity MK Snap Home - MK Snap, working to transform the lives of adults with learning disabilities in Milton Keynes. Through a Rotary district grant and match funding from MKGU Rotary we were able to update the servery area and equipment to meet the needs of those attending the charity to access and work in area safely.
In Summer 2024, we were able to support the new President's charity, Action4Youth, through providing a Pico boat for use at the outdoor learning centre at Caldecotte lake Outdoor After School Adventure Activities for Children. This boat will add to the outdoor activities available at the Centre, including for children with disabilities.
In November we supported the Rotary Wrap Up initiative with the donation of 120 winter coats to Unity MK in collaboration with the Bucks Fire Service. Members of MKGU attended the donation with the House fundraising manager from Unity MK and members of Bucks Fire Service. unitymk | UnityMK supports local Milton Keynes people experiencing homelessness and crisis.
In addition to the above special projects in 2024, we continued our work to support the MK Marathon in May through marshalling the course and to continue our support to Willen Hospice through marshalling a section of the Midnight Moo route in July and arrowing the Willen Sportif route in September.
Our major fundraising events of the year are the Cycle Challenge held annually in September in Europe and our golf fundraising event in August for End Polio Now.
