Rotary has flourished in Godalming for more than 80 years and the community work of the two Rotary Clubs is an integral part of life in the town. Rotary in Godalming welcome men and women who share the same common desire to do something worthwhile in the community, with a priority being community service and the support of local charities. Rotary Club of Godalming Woolsack
Over recent years, Rotary in Godalming has raised over £125,000 for a range of local charities including The Godalming & Villages Community Store, Air Ambulance, Phyliss Tuckwell and Skillway. Internationally we have supported the Rotary End Polio Now Campaign, ShelterBox and Light up A Child’s Life in Kenya. We also help run the Rotary South Children’s Fun Day which provides a free day out to about 1,000 disadvantaged children across Surrey and Hampshire.
The Rotary South Cut Out Cancer Campaign
The Rotary Club of Godalming Woolsack, supported by other Rotary clubs across Surrey and Sussex are partnering with Royal Surrey County Hospital - the Rotary South Cut Out Cancer campaign - to fund the purchase of the high-tech specialised medical equipment for the treatment and care of cancer patients in the new Cancer and Surgical Innovation Centre being built at the Royal Surrey. This will allow more accurate and complex surgeries to take place, meaning faster recovery times and improved patient experience. This campaign has been running for just over 2 years and has so far raised over £156,000.
Rotary Repair Cafes
More recently, the Rotary in Godalming have set up Repair Cafés in Godalming and Chiddingfold supported by volunteers with a wide range of skills and knowledge. A large proportion of the people who have brought in broken domestic items left with their items in full working order again, saving the owners money and helping avoid the Greenhouse Gas emissions associated with buying and manufacturing a new product. The Cafés have just completed their 1,000th successful repair. Everything is done voluntarily, including the provision of tea, coffee and cake, although they do accept donations to help cover costs.
