Our Charter night was an evening of celebration recognising 24 years Godalming Woolsack has had the privilege to serve under the Rotary International banner serving our Community in Godalming and those in need overseas. We were delighted to be joined by Woolsack members and guests who have been recognised by Rotary for their service above self with the highest award in Rotary, the Paul Harris Fellowship.
This was an evening of celebration with Godalming Woolsack President Catherine presenting Rotarian Tony Luscombe with the Paul Harris Fellowship award for his service to the Club and the Community. People of all ages in our Community have benefited from his tireless work with his team managing the Community and Vocational Committee. The Club was delighted Tony’s family, Diana, Philippa, Christopher and Oliver, were able to be present for the award. It was a secret well kept in order it could be a surprise for Tony on the evening and could be shared with his family.
While this was a fun evening, the Club had to say goodbye to one of our Founder members Ian Russell. Ian has been a lively member of Godalming Woolsack since 1992 and we will miss his support and sense of humour. Ian and Vera are moving home to be nearer their daughter. He plans to join a Rotary Club nearer to his new home. We wish Ian and Vera every happiness in their new home.
The West Surrey Golf Club made us all very welcome and served a most enjoyable meal. Violinist Kai Choi treated us to a lively selection of violin compositions during the evening.
