A small number of members from the Godalming Woolsack Club arrived from 7:30am to open the gates and allow the fun fair set up and start erecting the gazebos and the family games. These Rotarians were closely followed by members of the Town Council and subsequently over 30 members and friends from both Rotary clubs in Godalming who all helped to ensure that when the stall holders arrived they found their allocated space and were ready to go when the Fair opened at 11am.
We had no idea how popular the event was going to be but by midday we knew all would be well. Fortunately the weather was kind and everyone enjoyed a warm and sunny family day out, until just after the Fair closed when the rain arrived!!
We estimate that circa 2,000 members of the Godalming and local villages community supported the event and a big thank you to all of you for turning out, supporting the stall holders and our charities. You helped us raise over £5,000 which will be shared between the Godalming Woolsack’s Rotary South Cut Out Cancer campaign, Green Hub and other local charities.
The Fair attracted 35 different stalls including those selling toys, garden plants home-made jewellery, chutneys and jams and others sharing information about Rotary and other local charities.
At the centre of the field were 10 traditional family games recently constructed for the Woolsack Rotary Club by Skillway and the Workshop at the Garden House which were enjoyed by grandparents, parents and children.
Other attractions included a fun fair with a range of exciting rides and a stage where local musicians and choirs performed throughout the day.
A range of food was also on offer including grills, Thai and Indian whilst The Antelope - Taproom & Bottle Shop based in Godalming High Street provided a popular range of drinks.
A great day was enjoyed by all!
Our thanks go to Seymours who were our main sponsor and also to Godalming Town Council, Waverley Borough Council and the local scouts for their help and support.
