“Stewart began his professional life as a landscape photographer in the west of Scotland, but quickly succumbed to the world of photojournalism and then communications and events consultancy. A freelance for many years he counted the (Glasgow) Herald, Now Publications, the Scotsman, Guardian, the BBC and ITV among his media clients, was a regular contributor to the Diary column and had a stable of corporate and voluntary sector accounts, including Cannon/MGM cinemas.
“Described by a recruiter as ‘an inveterate tree hugger’ he was later attracted to work with the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (Sepa), and occupied various positions over several years, most recently in a leadership role for Scotland’s Flood Warning and Forecasting Service, about which he’s spoken to us before.
“He was one of the Dunblane Centre trustees for several years, and has lived in the town for over 24 years. Passionate about community resilience and safety, he joined the board of the Scottish Flood Forum, and now also chairs the national board of Neighbourhood Watch Scotland, but very recently was persuaded to resurrect something he last did in 1988, in a different area, but he’ll tell you more about that himself.”
