Well as we all arrived at the canal centre in Linlithgow on a beautiful sunny evening little did we know what excitement we were going to have later.
We had a great crew, Stuart Liddle past president of South Queensferry Rotary Club and his crew member Elspeth Ross and after a short safety brief we set off for a relaxing and once we were out of Linlithgow quite a picturesque cruise. After an hour we arrived at Bridge 49 where they were ready to serve our dinner which was enjoyable and there was a loud buzz of friends having a good time.
About 9.00 it was time to set off back to Linlithgow and we all got back onto the barge, which after a few minutes of trying was deemed to have a flat battery and a replacement would be 20 minutes. When it arrived it was evident that there was a more serious issue and with assistance from a neighbouring barge owner and staff from the restaurant using their own cars we were able to get all our car drivers back to pick up their cars in Linlithgow and then return to pick up their passengers.
Thank goodness it was a lovely spring evening, though by this time it was getting quite cold.
Despite the problems it was great to see the Rotary machine spark into life to rescue the situation, well done to everyone.
