The Association of Dunkirk Little Ships
Introduction
In May 1940 the British Expeditionary Forces and Allied Troops were stranded on the beaches of Dunkirk. Rear Admiral Sir Bertram Ramsay master-minded a pre-planned evacuation, Operation Dynamo with a multitude of requisitioned pleasure bo ats. During the "Nine Days of Dunkirk", these Little Ships achieved a successful "retreat" or as Winston Churchill described it "Miracle of Dunkirk"
The ADSL
Founded in 1965 by broadcaster Raymond Baxter, its history and work to this day will be descibed.
The Association organises the 5-yearly "armada" to Dunkirk and back and preparations for 2020 are already in hand.
Discovery of Mimosa
In 1995 Colin Messer and Jane Percival discovered a Little Ship and became the fourteenth registered owners feeling she had a 'history'.
Her previous owner had completed a thorough restoration of the hull and had started fitting out the interior.
Since then the full restoration has been completed to her original design in Colin and Steve Messer's boatyard at Clewer on the Thames near Windsor.and her original name "Mimosa" reinstated,
She became Colin and Jane's home until its sale in 2012.
