How does The Rotary Club if Cotwold Tyndale help this brilliant initiative?
The Rotary Shoebox Scheme started in 1994. However, over the last 5 years, the Rotary Club of Cotswold Tyndale has become a local hub for clubs within the District and beyond, as well as, schools, youth groups and churches.
Last year they collected and delivered 1,811 boxes in addition to which Cotswold Tyndale, in conjunction with local schools, brownies, churches, groups and individuals also raised money to cover the cost of the filled boxes collected.
This has been helped greatly by support from Yate Supplies, who are able to collect and transport boxes up to the central hub in Oldham, at Zero cost to the scheme!
These boxes then travelled, along with 50,000 other boxes, to Eastern Europe where local Rotary clubs then ensure they reach those in need.
Cotswold Tyndale approached local schools and other youth groups building a network of collectors from their friends and contacts who all want to help others in need in this very practical way.
When working with schools, the options include children filling individual boxes or, to make it more affordable to take part, classes/schools asking children to bring a single item in and then boxes are filled using these items.
People and organisations have been asking us “How can we get involved?”
So, if you would like to know more and get involved please contact Cotswold Tybdale’s Youth Lead, Andrew Easey on aeasey74@gmail.com or go the shoebox website at https://www.rotaryshoebox.org/
We are also happy to pop along to talk to another club or organisation to outline how easy and rewarding running a Shoebox Appeal can be for your Club, if that would be helpful to you?
For Christmas delivery, boxes need to be with Yate Supplies by the 1st December, but boxes are distributed all year. So you can get involved at a time that suits you.
