Nottingham and the surrounding villages were famous for the textile industry.
Arnold, Calverton and Ruddington were just some of the villages where the Framework Knitters were very active.
Indeed, it was in Arnold in 1811 that the Luddites began their crusade against shoddy competition.
Framework knitting was literally a ‘cottage’ industry, and the museum gives a good insight into working conditions in the 19th century. Having just completed a visit, I can assure you that this is a visit packed with all sorts of interesting facts.
Small groups will be given a conducted tour of the estate of cottages and machine shops. Just a word of warning, the tour does involve stairways.
Cost of the tour will be £8 per head and the cafeteria will be open to provide light refreshments should you require them.
As there is a maximum and minimum number, I do need an early indication of intent please.
