Nineteen members of the Club together with their guests embarked on MV Symphony and set sail along the Loughborough canal and headed towards Normanton- on- Soar.
The boat is owned and operated by The Peter Le Marchant Trust and is equipped with all that is required for a gentle cruise on an English Summer evening along the tranquil river Soar. Our Skipper, Charles Moor (Trent Bridge Rotary Club) and his crew looked after us extremely well throughout our journey and provided us with refreshments.
After passing through Chain Bridge and several locks we reached the river itself which was very picturesque and full of a variety of wildlife. We glided gently along the river beside fields and meadows arriving at the private wharf alongside The Plough Inn.
After disembarking from the boat we had several drinks at the bar and then had a most enjoyable supper in the restaurant. All too soon we had to set sail back along the river and head back towards Loughborough. We did however enjoy fresh strawberries and cream together with a glass of wine along the way.
We had the opportunity of enjoying true Rotary fun and fellowship throughout the evening and saw at first hand what good work The Peter le Marchant Trust does in providing cruises for those with significant health issues.
It was a very relaxing and enjoyable trip on a perfect summers evening. Special thanks must go to Charles and his crew for looking after us so well throughout the voyage.
John Dornan.
