Strelley Hall - 2018

.

One of the final social events of President Rosalie’s year in office saw Rotarians together with their partners and friends assemble at Strelley Hall for what has now become an annual event.
To begin our evening we had drinks on the extensive terrace which overlooks the newly  manicured gardens. This was followed by the presentation by Christine Robinson who had spent her entire working life at Chatsworth House at which she was Head of Housekeeping for many years. She provided a fascinating insight into the history of the house together with its day-to-day challenges. This together with the display of, and stories behind, several items  discovered in lost rooms and cupboards over the years.
The presentation was riveting and eventually used up both its allotted time together with the time allocated for questions and answers, but no one cared as we were all captivated.
An auction was held before we had our buffet, for a watercolour painting of Strelley Hall,  painted by and donated by Roy Smales. This superb painting attracted a frenzy of bids  before being knocked down for £100. Many thanks Roy for your considerable efforts.
The buffet supper was then taken in the adjacent room and as usual this was provided by  Geraldine and her team from the Mulberry Tree cafe and restaurant. The Notebook brewery helped to slake our thirst!
Throughout the evening Rotarian's wives had been selling raffle tickets as we attempted to raise funds for Billie's House and other local charities, Billie's house being the Nottingham  facility of CLIC Sergeant. Several local people and businesses had donated prizes for which we are grateful and we urged people to support the businesses who support Rotary..
At the end of the evening we had made a total of £775 for our good causes; this is amazing !
As a footnote my daughter Alice decided to ride the Nottingham 100 mile cycle event in support of us and to raise funds for CLIC Sergeant and she raised a further £260!
A final big "Thank you" to everyone who helped to make this evening both the social and  financial success that it was.
