Matlock Rotary Club Supports Jigsaw Foodbank

 In these difficult economic times, caused by the Covid 19 pandemic lockdown, it is especially important to support local foodbanks.

Matlock Rotary Club has responded to this need by making a donation of £1,000 to Jigsaw Foodbank, off Limetree Road, Matlock.

Jigsaw is operated by Church in the Peak, based in Matlock, and supports people living in the local area who require help in times of need.

During the coronavirus pandemic, foodbanks are experiencing a huge rise in demand due to people self- isolating or losing their regular level of income.

Jigsaw Foodbank is currently providing food for 135 individuals in the area.

Each parcel includes store cupboard goods, fresh fruit and vegetables, fresh food, frozen food, household products and toiletries. Over 60 parcels are packed every week and 60 volunteers are working at the foodbank.

Matlock Rotary Club President, Phil Pegg, who is himself suffering from Covid 19 said “We are pleased to be able to support a local foodbank which provides a vital service to the community. The funds that we have raised through charitable fundraising events, are being well spent.”

A spokesperson from Church in the Peak, said “We are really grateful for the donation of £1,000 from Matlock Rotary Club. This will enable us to buy food for people who have fallen on hard times.”
