It was an eventful evening at Rotary on 5th September. Not only did we have the induction of a new member, Elizabeth Davey, but also a rare appearance by Tim Jones.
The induction was carried out by President Rick Johnson. Liz has been actively supportive of Rotary, and particularly Wheels, for several years and it was a delight to welcome her into the fold.
Tim was there to speak about REPoD, Rotarians Easing Problems of Dementia. REPoD works alongside Rotary Clubs across the Great Britain and Ireland to offer practical support for families living with dementia and in social isolation. Wadebridge was one of the first Memory Cafes in Cornwall (Launceston was first), set up initially by Wadebridge Rotary but then becoming independent. REPoD connects Rotarians across the country.
At the end of the talk, Tim was surprised when the ‘thanks to speaker’ by Nigel Davey turned into the the award of a Paul Harris Fellowship. Though not often present at Rotary meetings recently for health reasons, Tim has continued his work with REPoD and the Wadebridge Memory Cafe. As International team leader, he has been responsible for managing the club’s donation to Lend With Care, identifying suitable beginning entrepreneurs in developing countries to receive loans. A truly deserved award.
If you are wondering why Rick is dressed differently in the photos with Liz and Tim, it’s because we totally failed to take a decent photo of Liz the first time round, so it was restaged the following week. AI not involved…!
