Wadebridge Rotary Sponsors Girls Football Kit
The girls of Wadebridge Town Football Club finally have a set of new training tops, courtesy of Wadebridge Rotary, which donated £760 for them.
Three age groups were kitted out: U9s, U11s and U13s. They look really smart and were delivered just in time for all amateur football activity to be halted under the latest lockdown. That’s how it goes sometimes, but the tops will come into their own, and will be greatly appreciated, according to one of the players, a member’s daughter.
It was back in the heady, care-free pre-pandemic days of 23rd March 2019 that Rotary put on a “Tapas and Toetapping” evening at the John Betjeman Centre. Attendees paid £30.00 a head for tapas with prawns and chorizo skewers, Andalusian chicken, short rib of beef, and much more, home cooked by Paul Boote and Nick Pickles, along with wine tasting (courtesy of Wadebridge Wines), whilst entertainer Callum Flew sang songs by Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Tom Jones, Neil Diamond and others. The event raised nearly £1000 which was set aside for a local cause, and finally after an awful 2020 the girls have their tops.
One day, we will be able to hold such events again and Paul and his Community & Vocational team are looking forward to it.
