Rotarians, partners, friends & John discended on Colwith Farm distillery saturday evening to celecbrate the end of his year as President.
When we arrived we were greated with complimentary drinks and friendly atmosphere. Steve & Chris are the fifth generation of the family business, operating sustainability of plough to bottle, Chris running the farming side and Steve the distillery, making vodka and gin.
The company are very proud that they won three double gold medals ar San-Francisco world spirits competition, the first UK distillery to achieve this.
Our guide for the evening was Kevin he explained that once the potatoes have arrived fromthe farm and been peeled what then happends at each process to get the final product of Vodka or Gin. Throughout the talk/walk around the distillery he handed bottles around for us to smell from each stage of then process. We could smell how the liquid went from smelling of yeast, to something resembling nail polish remover and finally then end product of drinkable alcohol.
After our tour we had a lovely meal in the resturant of either meat pie with mash and veggies or quiche, salad & colslow, followed with sticky toffee pudding and cream or ice-cream with fruit compot, all freshly prepared on site, delicious, all washed down with the odd drink or two (my personal favourate was the Elderflower Vodka, Lush).
The club would like to thank John for a brilliant year and for the idea of celebrating it here, Cheers.
