A Tribute to Mike Bridgman

Rtn. Mike Bridgman

Mike Bridgman passed away suddenly on 12 September 2024, aged 65.   He was joint owner of Holsworthy Golf Club and past proprietor of Bridgman's Agricultural Merchants, both of which were very successful businesses.

As a Rotarian of many years' standing, Mike was a hugely popular member of both Torrington and Holsworthy clubs.   He was a keen follower of sports and in particular an enthusiastic golfer.   With a typical outgoing saleman's personality, Mike was always busy fundraising for Rotary and local charities.   His annual golfing fundraiser hosted at Holsworthy Golf Club raised many thousands of pounds, as did other specialised events -  he ran 'banger' car racing for many years prior to his involvement with HGC.  His enthusiasm was infectious and he always had total support from his fellow Rotarians.

When Great Torrington School was in need of a new sports hall, Mike's expertise in fundraising enabled the Club to make a major contribution to the new building.  This dedication to his local community was seen many times over;  in 2002-2003 Mike was President of Torrington Rotary Club.

Mike was also a trained chef, and his catering prowess was renowned amongst the North Devon Rotary Clubs.  With his normal meticulous planning, Mike would cook for over 100 people at fundraising events,  including Torrington Club's annual 'Indoor Sports Night' held at Langtree Village Hall.

Mike recognised his good fortune in his family and business lives and just wanted to help whoever he could when he saw something was needed.  In true Rotarian spirit, he gave 'service above self' and is hugely missed by all his friends in Rotary.

Mike's widow, Lin, was a constant support and was one of the first wives to join our club.   To her, and their children and grandchildren, we extend our sincere sympathy.
