Community Service

Supporting our town and surrounding villages in projects which enhance community life.

Club members please log in for more information.

The Community Committee of Torrington Rotary works on mainly local projects aimed at supporting those who live in our town and surrounding villages.

During the last 2 years we've completed various projects-   installing another  new defibrillator on the Tarka Trail, providing new seating for Torrington Library,  helping fund the new hanging baskets in the Pannier Market and new plants in Sidney House gardens and we've made many donations to local charities, such as Men's Sheds, the Bickford Centre and the Foodbank.  We've donated over £500,000 since our club first started.

In October we were delighted to welcome back Ryan Ware and his wife Fiona (see photo above) as guest speaker.  Ryan trained as a paramedic and has since 'moved up the ambulance ladder'  to become one of the senior management team for the entire South West ambulance service.   It was really inspirational to hear of his work, the challenges and the successes.

Our latest local fundraising was our Pop-Up Shop in Torrington-  we raised nearly £3000 - huge thanks to all those who donated, bought, or helped us to reach this fantastic sum.

Our New Project is 'WRAP UP'  - collecting good winter coats for distribution to those in need.  It's a UK-wide Rotary project, and you can find out more at the website  www.wrapupuk.org.    The Bickford Centre is the local collection point - simply pop along and leave your coat in the big box!

We're also at the Torrington Pannier Market... come and visit our Torrington Rotary stall where you can find out more about our club, and maybe have a go on the tombola!

If you know of a local 'good cause' that Rotary might help in 2024, please let us know by using the 'Contact Us' link on the home page.
