We were pleased once again to compete in the final of the N Devon Skittles having won our division.
The venue for the final was Bideford Conservative Club where, on July 25th, we convincingly beat Barnstaple Link.
Our opponents were perhaps two short of their strongest team but such was the high standard of our team on the night that we would have beaten anyone.
We scored a total of 462 (skittles knocked down) and they scored 395, a winning margin of 67.
Thinking back, this has to be the highest total we have made over the past few years, and to have achieved it in the final is highly satisfying.
We have a squad of ten and a few others who will play if we are desperate, so to be as consistent as we are really does take some doing. All the squad were available for the final and I had the unenviable task of selecting our team of eight.
It was not all roses during our qualifying matches; sometimes we are not on form and struggling and then a player or two will pull us through. Some team members require some liquid nourishment before they can move out of first gear.
I dont normally single players out for their performance because anyone can play exceedingly well one time and then be disappointed with another performance, and this applies to most sports; it can be frustrating when one is playing under par and others are scoring well. So we play as a team and take the credit as a team.
We will be starting our next campaign in September/October and if there is anyone who would like to join the team then they will be very welcome.
I would like to arrange a couple of friendlies this year with partners playing which will offer a good opportunity to have a go.
