About us

Welcome to the Rotary Club of Takeley.

We are an informal evening club, with the focus on friendship and volunteering in the community, rather than meals.  Our members come from a wide area around Takeley, e.g Bishops Stortford, Great Dunmow, Hatfield Broad Oak and Stebbing.

Our aims:

  • To promote friendships of like-minded people with a motto of 'service above self'.
  • To help our community
  • To promote peace and care of the environment

We meet fortnightly on a Wednesday evening at 8 p.m. at Little Canfield Community Hall to chat, have some light refreshments and plan our programmes. Sometimes we have an interesting speaker; occasionally we go out and have fun, such as Crazy Golf or Tenpin Bowling or a social or educational visit, e.g. snowdrops at Anglesey Abbey

What we do: We have some regular community projects such as:

  • Foodbank support
  • Takeley and Little Canfield Open Gardens annual event
  • Quizzes
  • Race Nights
  • Helping our environment- e.g. community litter picks
  • Young Environmentalist and other Youth Competitions such as Young Writer and Photographer for school age children and young people.
  • Santa rounds- joint with Dunmow Rotary
  • Volunteer to help with Takeley fireworks, and shows such as Dunmow Soapbox and Countess of Warwick

We  volunteer to help other local charities- e.g. Accuro and Young Lives versus Cancer.

We promote and support international charities such as Mary's Meals, Porridge and Pens in Ghana and Menstrual Hygeine in Zambia. We are currently working with other Rotary clubs in the District trying to get a Global Grant for Porridge and Pens through our own Rotary Charity- the Rotary Foundation.

New members are very welcome. You are welcome to come along to any of our meetings to meet us, maybe listen to an interesting speaker, and find out what we do and what Rotary is about.
