Current Community Projects & Focus Areas

Sidmouth Citizen of the Year

Nominations are now open for the Sidmouth Citizen of the Year 2025 award.  The annual award was established in 1985 and is an opportunity to recognise one of the town and surrounding Sid Vale communities' unsung heroes.  The current award is open to anyone who has made a significant contribution to the local community during 2025.
The nominee could be someone who works for a charity or community group, or an individual who acts on their own behalf.
Your nomination, with the name of the person you are nominating and the reason why you are nominating them, should be sent to the Sidmouth Rotary Club coordinator, Robin Butler, by email to: svcoty2025@gmail.com no later than Sunday 1 February 2026.
Please include your name and telephone number.

Hernia Repair Project

Sidmouth Rotary Club is partnering with the Rotary Uganda Rotary Club of Jinja in Uganda to support a project that aims to improve the lives of people with long-standing hernias. A member of the Club travelled to Jinja to provide equipment and supplies at the Herona Community Hospital in Kisoga, Mukono

Young Chef

The **Rotary Young Chef Competition**, organised by Rotary in Great Britain and Ireland (Rotary GB&I), is a national culinary contest designed to encourage young amateur chefs aged 11 to 17 to develop skills in healthy eating, food presentation, and organisation. Participants are typically required to plan, prepare, and serve a **two-course healthy meal for two people** within a **two-hour** limit and a strict budget (usually around £15-£18). Contestants are judged on menu planning, hygiene, skills, taste, and presentation. The event aims to boost confidence and passion for cooking, with the National winner receiving a significant prize, often a culinary experience abroad
