I normally work in the City of London but since the middle of March, along with all my office based colleagues I have been working from home. I started a “Lockdown” beard as soon as I moved to working remotely and in early May , after realising that this working arrangement may be extending for a long time started to look for a way to raise funds locally, as I would normally be doing for the Rotary Club of Princes Risborough. I came up with a plan to raise funds, keep fit and put my beard to a good use- as by this time it was starting to get very thick and uncomfortable with the hot weather!
Our club requires funds to support our local community and has recently being especially supportive of small local community initiative that operates a food bank that serves young families affected by the Covid -19 pandemic.
The fundraising plan was to plan an endurance run of 5 mile sections over 24 Hrs with a group of friends and remove a section of my beard after each 5 mile run (see the photos below) with the likelihood of being left with some dodgy facial hair if I didn’t complete the run! Fortunately, I managed to and through some very generous supported have so far raised £2200 so far. I actually ran 5 laps with an additional 1.2 miles totaling a marathon distance 26.2 miles with a combined time 4:39. I am also very fortunate to have a generous employer that matches any fundraising I undertake which means I will be raising approximately £4400 for my local community! The link for donations is still active – So please donate here
Many Thanks
Rob
