As I gird up my loins for the third time to lead this able body into the next year of the Rotary Club of Kirkham and Rural Fylde,  I wonder"¦.Is that a light at the end of the tunnel, or"¦is it a train coming the other way?  Time will tell.  I was reminded what Rotary is all about when 8 Rotarians attended my house the other week in our efforts to set out the club for the year ahead.  We had a great night, and heard some really interesting stories (especially from Ray Lee!) none of which would have happened if we hadn’t been together for that common purpose.   The same goes for the bike ride I have just been on, and the same will go for the four days I am going to spend in Atlanta, Georgia, next year at the Rotary International Conference.  I want the Club to make a difference in the community.  There will be some changes, subject to the clubs approval, but these are for the sole purpose of improving fellowship and democracy within the Club and getting members involved from the birth of any initiatives through to the completion of any particular project.

On a personal level, the  last twelve months have been difficult for me timewise as I have morphed from ‘big business’ back to my roots here in Kirkham and Fylde with my practice, and have had to burn the candle at both ends until I was properly staffed up, which, thankfully is now occurring, so I will have more time after the summer holidays to devote to that which I volunteered to do. A volunteer!  I would finally like to pay tribute to Rotarian Peter Doughty who has worked tirelessly to secure a grant of nearly £80'000 which will go to help the children of Africa. This is surely what Rotary is all about, making a difference to each and every indivuals life and that is what this club is committed in doing.

I am really looking forward to my year.
