We seek financial support for this Humanitarian Project in Zambia.
This is TAONGA Community School, Linda Compound, Lusaka, Zambia.
It has 600 pupils in a school that is falling down and has just one toilet.
• Four new toilets for dignity, better sanitation and limitation of diseases like cholera.
• A re-roofing and refurbishment of the school building, to provide a safe learning environment and
secure facility for school equipment.
• School materials and curriculum text-books to ensure all children can access an education.
• Teacher support to enhance the pupils learning and teacher satisfaction.
Of the 600 children in TAONGA Community School, Linda Compound, Lusaka, Zambia
• 300 children are orphans who cannot contribute to their schooling. They live mostly with their
grandmother, or other relatives. Without an education they have no hope.
• 100 are vulnerable and have absentee fathers and mothers who can’t make ends meet. They also
cannot contribute to their schooling.
• The remaining 200 are those who can manage, once in a while, to pay the K70 towards the
costs of schooling for a term. Equivalent to about £2, it barely scratches the surface of the real cost
of educating the children, with most community schoolteachers working on a volunteer basis.
Initially this will enable the purchase and installation of the four toilets as a priority.
• The school can then be made habitable and secure, allowing the teachers to educate in a
humanitarian and secure environment.
This done, it will allow:
• School materials in Literacy Boxes to be supplied, along with curriculum text-books, knowing they
will be stored securely and used for the education of the orphans and very poor children.
• Teacher support is to be offered, as appropriate, for the school and teachers.
Please enquire of your Club / District Foundation chair to confirm the eligibility of your donation to
