Find out about Defibrillators

Defibrillators

What is a Defibrillator?

It is a device that delivers an electric shock to the heart to restore a normal rhythm or restart a stopped heart. These can be used by anyone to support saving someones life. Someone's heart can stop at any age it isn't just our 'older generations'. You will often find these on community sites such as a school or community centre. Some will have a lock on for use and some won't.

How to find a Defibrillator?

When looking for a defibrillator anyone can search for it on defib finder via this link

Is your club responsible for a defibrillator? If so, check it it on the circuit. If it isn't on there the Ambulance Service cannot find it. You can register it here

Setting up a Defibrillator

Things to think about:

- Where are you thinking of locating it?  A Debibrillator can reach 400m

- Can it be outside where the public can access it?

- Is there a trip hazard?

- Can you put a light  sensor above it to enhance safety?(mainly rural area's)

- Who will be it's named Guardian?

- Cost. Are you considering a 10 year package so that if the Defibrillator needs to be used then the pads ect can be replaced

What can you do to help?

If you see a Defibrillator go to 'Find a Defib' and see if you can find it. If it doesn't appear that means it isn't on the circuit. If you find this then please contact South Western Ambulance Service to let them know and they will support it's guardian to get it online.
